dreams deferred

i've given up everything
to slice open
the skin of my dreams,

dreams now torn
but i wear the faded blue silk
grasp the tattered hem
wait for the mending

I'm always so happy when you pop into my reader. This is great. I can see hope lying between these lines even though her dreams didn't work out first time around. Well done. Have a great night.

Dear Cynthia,

So beautiful and moving! Vulnerable and naked, yet with a brave survivor feeling.

Love: "the skin of my dreams"

You are one of my absolute favourite poets on Blogger.

Hi Michelle, I'm so glad you aren't disappointed and honored
that you enjoy my poetry, because
you read so much poetry.
Thank you for your support!

Hi Linda, thank you. I must read
the poem you wrote.

Hi Devika, thank you!

Hey AJ, you are such an uplifting
presence for me.

Hi Jenny-Jen, thank you! I try to
if not be honest about my own life
{all of my poetry isn't about me}
as well as honest about the human
condition, of which we all can
relate to quite easily.

Yes indeed, Shadow. Thank you!

Hey Gerry, thank you so much. I
really try to conjure up an image
that will bring home what it is
I'm trying to say.

You muse on the ‘optimism’ of “grasping the tattered hem/ [as we] wait for the mending”... I love the idea of dreams never being lost to us but only “being deferred”.

I find this very intense, there's a kind of inwardliness here.

Short and intense.

And I feel this is so true Catherine, my dreams are coming
true, slower & not always in the
exact way or by the thought-upon
path, but coming true none-the-
less. And I will honor each step.
Thank you for taking time away from
your studies to comment. Now, I
must take a page from your book
and buckle down & study.

Hi Mystic Rose, yes an introspective mood. Thank you.

Hi again Cynthia,

Yes, I thought so as well, with the human condition and that it did not necessarily have to be about you in particular.

You are brilliant at bringing forward an emotional presence in everything you write. I really admire that.

Cynthia said...

Hi Calli, thank you. Oh my goodness, it does seem as if
you were expected - cali kmas -
kind of like cali christmas.

Hi there Jenny, I must admit to
being a tad emotional, being
a moonchild , and certainly
sensitive to others. Just as you
are sensitve to the ways
of Mother Nature.

Hi Cynthia,

This was powerful. You are the master of putting great significance in short, elegant stanzas. As always, the poem stayed in my mind. It’s a privilege to read them :)

Cynthia said...

Hello Dani, I have to dig deeper
every once in a while.

Cynthia said...

Hi Ande, thank you for your generous words. The shorter poems
at times, seem to have more of
an impact.
