Poemflesh

indelible heart-stain

hushed fountains.
the quieted lover rests his face
upon rain-worn stone

a bouquet of trembling lilacs
and impossibly white roses
lay abandoned, sprawled.

for one season he lived
inside an unnameable affair
late suppers at la cantina

clasping wet pearls around her throat
tracing long stemmed roses down her spine
soft lips and softer words.

he did not know how to bury
his heart, how to free himself from
the one person inherently capable

of erasing his childhood terrors,
another being who lives inside the mind
cultivating pieces of torn flesh

shredded clouds giving
birth to dark butterflies. a lover who
kissed the worst parts of his soul

and found them to be
unflawed gems
worthy of cherishing.

Your poetry is beautiful. Thank you so much for your kind comment on my Autumn Morning post:). Glad to know that someone else out there liked 'What Lies Beneath' too!

Hi Victorian, thank you for

What Lies Beneath, held my attention and I've actually watched
the movie again.

I am at loss of words at how you churn out those mystic lines.
"Of romance, I didnt realise, it was made to be a joy for moment and part of sweet memory. But kept for a while in action, it becomes stale."
Something so deep with a compulsive force of attraction, you create the scenes. Cynthia, I really love the art that you create with your words.

Cynthia said...

Hello Dani, you are so kind to me.
The words in quotes are quite lovely. Thank you for saying I
create scenes. Can't wait to see
what's new at your blog.

Cynthia, you asked about finishing crochet pieces.
I just yarn over and pull through the loop on the hook, pull tight. Leave a tail of at least six inches, cut and weave into work with a yarn needle. That should give you a more finished look. Not sure it that was what you were really asking or not?

Hi CL yes, that it. I will try
this method on my next piece.
Thank you.

Oh my goodness --- this is so bittersweet ... bring tears to these old eyes.

This gave me chills, is this not what we all seek, for someone to look past our darkness. Beautifully written Cynthia.

Michelle Johnson said...

everyone needs someone to cherish them I believe. you captured the essence of that well here but...

i also see another element that maybe doesn't exist except in my own mind. i felt as though this man was of a split personality searching for someone to understand him as one identity. i'm sorry if that's way off base but that's what i took from this piece of wonderful poetry. have a great day.

Cynthia said...

Hello Amias, yes it is, being
cherished is def. what I desire.
Thank you for visiting!

Cynthia said...

Hi Michelle, that's a very
psychological interpretation.
Sometimes I feel to have a split
personality, perhaps I imposed
myself upon the poem a tad.
Thank you, Michelle.

How beautiful! I can actually picture this as I'm reading. There's so much passion here and the "season" of an affair depicts intense love and self abandonment albeit brief. The last stanza is wonderful.

Thanks for commenting and joining. I'm certain I will enjoy your gift. Can't wait to read more.

Cynthia said...

Hello She Poet. Thank you for seeing that season does equal
an intensity of love and emotion.
Soemthing, that yes may be briefer
than other loves, but the feeling
of such a love is never duplicated.
Your poetry is wonderful and very
feminine. Thank you!
